Pre-Owned Handbag Inspection Checklist
A handbag can look excellent from the front while showing most of its wear in less obvious places. This checklist helps you inspect the entire item.
Exterior
Review the front, back, base, corners, piping, handles, and strap. Look for scuffs, cracking, color transfer, peeling edge coating, loose threads, and areas that have lost their shape.
Interior
Look for staining, pen marks, makeup residue, odors, torn lining, pocket wear, and debris trapped along seams. Ask whether the lining pulls out for easier inspection.
Hardware and function
Check zippers, snaps, turn locks, buckles, feet, rings, and strap clips. Cosmetic tarnish differs from a closure that no longer works, so the description should identify functional problems clearly.
Identity details
For branded items, inspect logos, labels, date or style codes, stitching, hardware markings, and overall construction. These clues help evaluation, but photographs alone may not replace a qualified authentication service for a high-value purchase.
Fit for your needs
Confirm length, height, depth, opening size, handle drop, and strap range. Think about the items you carry and whether the bag can be comfortably worn the way you expect.
